Marketing Study

 

The work presented is the final delivery of a mission carried out by the author in Pakistan within the project ‘Promotion of the production and marketing of olive oil’.

 

The project has been financed by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and implemented by IAO (Istituto Agronomico per l’Oltremare, Italy) in close collaboration with the PODB - MINFAL (Pakistan Oilseeds Development Board - Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock).

 

The project finds its justification in the extreme burden represented by the bill for edible oils importation in the Pakistani balance of payments,the second highest one after petroleum and its derivates and the highest one for food products.

 

The work is divided into two main sections: the first one is a brief overview of the edible oils in Pakistan whereas the second one focuses on the olive oil market and tries to describe future scenarios for the olive oil production and market of Pakistan.

 

This work is the first one done ever about edible oil and hence it is meant to be an initial tool useful for foreseeing what can happen to the olive oil market in the coming years.
